Teen Wolf... hair in the hallway... in the stairwell...ew...
Gorilla carrying a guy.The house from the movie "Up". So, it is Halloween celebrating time at work today. I was lame this year and wore a black shirt that says creepy with a little green spider silkscreened on it. And donned a headband that has a spider on it. There you go. (My excuse being...getting the book done and YW stuff. By the way, the international night was a success last night!)
So, yes, we woke up to snow this morning. Not much where I live. But the news weather reporters exaggerate just a bit...saying there was all this snow on the main freeway...Finally I got up the nerve to get going (and surprisingly was only 5 minutes late for work) and the freeways were wet but no snow! Hello! Oh well. I was grateful that they exaggerated... and it was much better conditions. YES!
Stayed up till 1am this morning. Tired. First got home yesterday- went right away to do visiting teaching. Next, YW Pres meeting for 2 and a half hours! Finished at 9:30. Then proceeded to my computer and worked straight till 1am on the book. Got up at 5am for the day. Crazy day yesterday for sure! Oh, I had no time to eat and finally at 11pm I couldn't stand it and quickly ate something.
Tonight is YW/YM. I hope the International/Culture Night goes okay. I will hope for it. ; )
So our YW/YM activity is tomorrow night...and Peru just cancelled. The presenter has a class assignment tomorrow night he didn't know about. SIGH. Kind of hard when a country cancels on you at the last minute. Oh well. We will survive. We have 5 other places for the kids to learn about at least. No more cancellations allowed. Please.
I had a lazy night last night. Should have worked on some things...but it doesn't hurt to have a night off once in a while after my crazy schedule the last two months.
Happy Tuesday! And, yes, I know it is a geeky turtle above. In a hurry. ;)
Grateful for many things...including NO SNOW on the freeway this morning. Thank you!!!!
Good weekend... got the book SO close to being done. Just a few tweaks after work I hope. 2nd- I survived teaching the lesson in YW on Chastity. EEK! Just a little hard but you have to be straightforward. Luckily my counselors and the bishop were there too. Phew. I wish I could be confident on my feet in front of people. In other words, just being able to think clearly as I present. Ah well. Maybe it is a learning process... So much to learn in this life! (sigh!)
So this coming Wednesday we are doing an International/Culture Night. (One of the YM counselors is from Hawaii so we couldn't do it strictly International but wanted to include Hawaii... who wouldn't? That is where I want to be right now as Winter starts to rear it's ugly head...)
So these are the main pieces for it. I "borrowed" the logo for an actual passport. My counselors will wear the customs badges. I can't as I am presenting Canada.
As the kids go to each country, they get a sticker in their passport book...
Places to write notes...
The questions... (We asked each country/culture rep to come up with an answer to a question but not to spotlight that info in their presentation...hmmm, not sure how that will go but hopefully the kids will listen well.). The one for Hawaii is insane...The State fish of Hawaii is the humuhumunukunukuapua'a pronounced: hoo-moo-hoo-moo-noo-koo-noo-koo-auhp-oo-ah-ah! Yah, just try to say that 10 times fast! And this blurry photo is the sticker that will go on the back of the books that my "border patrol" counselors will place on the books once the kids answer the questions. I hope the activity goes okay. We will see. Next is to figure out YW in Excellence. Truly I have no idea what to do with that. I hope me and my counselors come up with good ideas this Tuesday night at our planning meeting... We have less than a month!
So close to finishing up stuff for my lesson Sunday, the book I have been working on for 2 months straight, and the YW/YM activity for Wednesday night!!! Can you believe it? I can't. Now to go review the lesson a bunch to get it all down.
I will post photos of the YW/YM activity stuff soon.
My dream for you...eat healthy food. There you go.
Have a great Thursday! Jam-packed weekend for me. Lots 'o work ahead for me. But what a happy moment when Monday comes and I have it all basically done! YES!
Enjoy your Thursday!
P.S. Sometimes, I have decided, it is weird watching the world go by. Watching as people hit milestones/accomplish things in their lives that I am not even close to accomplishing and wonder if I ever will. I kind of feel left out sometimes. Oh well. I guess we all feel that at times.
Something is wrong with that...if I am more tired when I wake up. Can I hire an assistant? Right now with a mega freelance job, my mega church assignment (It feels like it just because there is a lot to remember and coordinate.), work, and family--my mind is going a million different directions. I wish I could accomplish some of the things while I am sleeping! Nothing to show for it when I get up in the morning other than I am still tired. And my working out is being effected too. Not too consistent. Not good. Maybe I am tired when I wake up because I have dreams about accomplishing some of my tasks...and if that is the case, I wish I could remember what those tasks are that I have apparently completed at night. Because then I could take them off my to-do list! : )
Ah well. I will survive. I can never say I am bored and that is nice. Though a little boredom/downtime could be a nice thing... Bye for now, I think I will just lay my head down at my desk for a few minutes...
Driving to work in the dark, you have to be extra careful...flying shovels, items in general out on the road...but you also have to watch out for early morning runner people...Yep, I almost made $50 bucks...the light had turned yellow and I was already starting to go through so I quickly zipped through the light and was making a left turn and there was a runner guy just barely crossing the road. No way would he get across before it was a VERY red light but needless to say I had to stop for him of course...and for the record, was glad to stop. Hey guy, put some reflectors on your clothes or arms or something. Just a tip there for him. And another tip, probably not a good idea to cross the road when the light will be red in about 3 seconds. He may be a fast runner but not that fast.
(The $50 bucks idea was something that as kids we came up with saying that we could make an easy $50 by running someone over on our bikes...not that we ever really wanted to nor that we did. But that was the idea... Silly kids that we were and still are!)
And no, the purple in the little quick sketch is not a reflector purple color...
I got a lot accomplished this last weekend...but didn't finish anything really. Okay, I did finish one project. Yay for me! I have the week ahead to get more done, right? The book project seems to never end. And it is for sure the most time consuming. Haven't done a project this large in forever. But that's ok. Keeps me from being bored? Above is a part of the cover for the book. I think he is cute. Even though he should be eating healthy if he wants to grow tall and strong...maybe he will learn? ; ) Check out the book when it gets printed at www.greensmoothiegirl.com (No, it isn't printed yet because I haven't finished the book...)
A good friend of mine is a good friend of the family who just lost their little girl in a car accident about 2 weeks ago. The little girl's name is Madison. She was only 13. A very hard time for the family to suddenly lose their child. I volunteered to draw Maddie's picture. I know it won't take away the sorrow of their loss but I wanted to do something.
It is a reminder to me to let my loved ones know as much as possible how much I love them. I hope you all remember to do that too.
Happy Friday. Two book covers to work on, two more pages for one of the books to design, and a passport design for a combined activity the end of this month. What an amazing weekend this would be to get all that completed! I can have big dreams, right?
People are moving around left and right at work this week. I was asked to stay at my desk. Which is fine with me. But I know things will be different at work (and it makes me sad) because some of my friends and co-workers are moving to other areas. Just a little hard for me since change is not my strong point. Oh well. Nothing I can do but just smile.
In a few weeks we will be used to it I suppose and I know in some ways that it will be a good thing, right?
Met with some of the teen girls in the neighborhood last night and it was just cute hearing them talk about how two of them are having a double date with two boys in the neighborhood. And how excited they were. It's just cute.
I hope they have an amazing time on Friday night.
Happy Wednesday! Yes- working today. Yes- working more when I get home.
Yes- I posted a tomato. And yes, we have turkey for Canadian Thanksgiving...not a tomato. I just hadn't sketched a turkey to post today. But I did have a tomato drawing...so here you go.
My weekend was good. Many church meetings. Finally finished kind of later in the evening. But it is all good. Now to get going with my week...lots to do at work and in the freelance arena... 2 book covers, a drawing of a little girl whose life was cut short. And some YW images for a friend.
Happy Friday! And get really excited because Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving!
Now on to the 10-10-10...
This Sunday marks the tenth day of the tenth month of 2010 (10-10-10 for short). Ten being the number of perfection.
The number ten has long been meaningful in religions and cultures around the world. Yet, most modern readers do not stop to count these clusters of ten, even though they can be conveniently counted on the fingers of their own two hands. Readers of the Book of Mormon have special cause to take note of the things that happen ten times in that book. While Benjamin, or Alma, or Nephi may have been aware of these perfect instances, one may be assured that Joseph Smith or Oliver Cowdery were not checking off on a ten-point punch list as they experienced these ten-fold repetitions while translating and transcribing the Book of Mormon.
These instances of ten can be organized and analyzed in several ways. It seems appropriate to approach this phenomenon under ten headings: perfection, worthiness, consecration, testing, justice, reverence, penitence, atonement, supplication, and ascension into the holy of holies or highest degree of heaven.
Happy 10-05-10 today! (It will be fun when it is 10-10-10 in 5 days. Just because. No reason other than it would just be fun to write it.)
Here is one of the illustrations from the book I am working on. Sad little boy image. I like all the colors in the images. Fun to put random color around. It makes me happy. Though he is sad. Don't worry- he gets happy later on. Not supposed to be quite as rainy today. Cool! I like rain- but the construction that I have to commute through each day does not mix well with anything...even dry roads at times.
So a sweet friend/co-worker/boss had her birthday celebrated today here at work. Miss Paula! Paula loves the trend of mustaches. So we had this planned for over a month. We are so glad that today finally came!
I drew the card for everyone to sign. Inside the cover of the card, I made a little pocket that holds 4 more mustaches. For her to choose from. Hehe.
Here is the card showing a little more of her face. Here is the banner that Christy and Kathy put together on Friday. They are my co-workers. And here are the chocolate mustaches that Kathy made. We also sported fake pink fur mustaches. As it shows in the first photo of this posting...Paula is wearing one.
Happy birthday, cute Miss Paula! You are the BEST!
P.S. Can I tell you how much I love General Conference each 6 months? I feel so uplifted, so thankful, so grateful. A new favorite speaker: Mervin Arnold. He is a member of the Seventy. I am such a sap for feeling the spirit through our church leaders' emotions. It touches my heart.
P.S.S. And I am on the downward part of the hill for getting the book finished! I am SOOOOO excited!
I drew this owl a while back. And a reading program in the East wants to use it for their book bags. Kind of fun. Who-who!
Did you remember to say "rabbit, rabbit"? First thing this morning before you said anything else? Well if you did, you have good luck all this month! Enjoy! Or better luck next month...
Good job, Paula!
Happy Friday! I am going to get so much done this weekend! And it is Conference weekend! Love listening to our amazing prophet and our leaders. I learn so much. And the whole weekend has an amazing spirit and feeling about it. And I always listen better when I am drawing...so I hope to get a lot of drawing done also. It is funny because when I was a child, General Conference seemed to last forever. Now I listen to every word and the time speeds by. Too quickly it is over for another 6 months.
Happy weekend! We have fun stuff planned for my dear friend and boss at work for Monday. It will be a fun day. Enjoy the anticipation, Miss P!
