"It's a Wacky World" YW/YM Dinner

So our YW/YM had a "It's a Wacky World" Dinner. The whole idea was to remind the youth that even though sometimes the world and it's ways are confusing, that we have the foundation of the gospel and that we need to follow what we know is right. And to try to ignore the confusion...the noise around us...and that sometimes choices we make aren't the best but that we can keep on moving forward...etc. We made up the mystery menus and had the youth sign up a week before so we knew what food to buy. The YW were in charge and did a lot of work to pull this off. In fact we were at the church an hour and a half before the activity started to set everything up.

We chose menu items and gave them wacky names so no one really knew what they were choosing. Like for example- the two main dishes were lion and shark. Lion was pancakes. And shark was chicken alfredo. Side dish examples were bacon, broccoli, green beans, fries, etc. They all got a salad and the toppings choices were licorice pieces, m&ms, grated cheese, tomatoes, grated carrots etc. The dessert was ice cream but the toppings were bacon bits or cool whip. Ice cream with bacon bits...yum? And then the paper cups- with 3 choices of beverages- had holes poked in them so you could only hold so much liquid in your cup. But the best were the utensils... yes, we all grabbed odd utensils from our houses. Spatulas, wire whisks, an orange peeler, huge serving spoons, a pie server, etc.

We had people sit where their name cards were. Here is mine. Though we YW leaders were in the kitchen the whole time.
Here are some of the youth and leaders...attempting to eat.
And yes- some of the salad toppings are shown here...just depended on the two topping choices that they selected. Grated carrots and marshmallows anyone? Oh yes...m&ms and grated carrots! Colorful! Or licorice and m&ms with some lettuce?
Whisking away your food?
Oh yum...pancakes and broccoli? Great combo!
Funnel o' food! Yes, Jordan ate all his meal stuffing his food into his funnel.
A spatula at least can cut some of the food...Our newest Beehive Maddie probably wondering what she got herself into joining this crazy youth program! ; ) (And hello, Drue, up in the corner of the photo...)
Oh yes, that funnel was used!
It was a great evening. Lots of laughing and fun. They all got a lot of food and I think everyone had a lot of fun. We certainly thought it was entertaining!

Way to go YW leaders for all the prep work and the YW class presidents! You did a ton of work to put this all together.

Cutest Canadian Pinwheel EVER!

When I got home yesterday, this was in my flower planter. Cutest pinwheel ever! I had to hold it to take a photo. It was very windy yesterday. Thanks to whoever gave it to me...though I think it might have been C & M...

A Card For a Co-Worker

I hope she liked it. I never heard from anyone...or her if she did....just a couple of minutes after I posted this, Emily came by and thanked me. I am glad she liked it. She heard it got buried at someone's desk. I would believe it!

5 Months ago today

5 months ago today was a sad day in our family. I am grateful for the knowledge I have because of the gospel. Love you, Mom. Miss you more than I can ever express.

Piano Update...

So I talked to my sister this morning about how the "performance" went with my nephew. Apparently Ben just stuck to the harmonica. Phew. He said it went great. At least he didn't attempt the piano as we wondered what in the world would happen with that... He did say that he messed up playing the harmonica but just started up again.

So there you go. Oh, to be 10 again and to have such confidence...though I question even in my younger years that I had that much confidence.

So I say, "Kudos to my nephew!"

Piano Anyone?

So my sister tells me this morning that last night her oldest, who is 10, has a talent show at school today. She asks him what he is going to do. She suggested that he tell a few jokes. He told her that he had his talent all figured out. There is a song he hums along to from a video game he likes. He tells her he has decided to sing the song and also play the piano.

That is all great you might say...but the big problem is that he doesn't play the piano. Never has. My sister reminds him of that. And this is what he says,"But Mom, it doesn't look hard to play the piano. I think I can do it." My sister lets him know that it is a little more difficult than he might think. So she suggests him playing the harmonica. (He has played that.)

She tells him to go practice about 20 times and then come upstairs. She said he came upstairs, after he practiced, and she said he sounded good. And felt good about that. Apparently his 8 year brother agreed and added, "Hey, Ben, you are really good at the harmonica. I bet if you wanted you could do it with the piano at school."

My sister again implored Ben to try to stick with the harmonica. I will wait to see what happened at the school talent show... ; )

Happy Spring today!

First day of Spring! A day of possibilities! I love the first day of Spring. The newness in the air...or something like that. Anyway, I love Spring. Happy Spring to all!

B Candy

So my 10 year old nephew Ben was part of a Mountain Man activity at school this last week. He came up with all the names for the candy. The bottom one is the back side of his third candy piece and it lists the ingredients. I think that one was called Rabbit Jerky. I thought he was quite clever.
Happy Monday!

Wonderful Saturday morning

Our YW and YM went to the temple to do baptisms at 5:30am on a Saturday morning. Early! But it was so wonderful. A member of the Temple Presidency spoke to them and told them that they are saviors on Mt. Zion because the ordinance work they are helping with can't be accomplished by people that have passed on. It was a sweet morning. The spirit was strong. Made my whole day.

Slow and Weird

SLOW: The temple, last night, was super SLOW. Two reasons. Caucus meetings last night and March Madness...though BYU was out of it first game. Ah well. Go, BYU! Always a fan!

WEIRD: I was told last night that someone in my Mom's ward had passed away this week. First thought- call Mom when I get home. Sigh. WEIRD. and I need to add SAD. STRANGE. Miss her more than I can explain.

My Clever Brother

http://bookofsume.blogspot.com/

Yes, I am bragging...my brother Gary is a copywriter/creative director for an ad agency. Richter7. He is amazing. Check out his car ad copy above. (Click on each car photo to see the text.)

Have to add this quote today: “We are unaware of hosts of blessings that we receive from day to day. It is extremely important that we have a spirit of gratitude in our hearts.” Elder Cook

F U N N Y kids...

So a friend at work was talking about her grandson who is in pre-school...

He came home and was telling a story about the stages of a caterpillar to a butterfly...
"So first there is a little egg. And then there is a caterpillar. And then there is a racoon (cocoon). And then there is a butterfly."

Haha.

hunh?

weird- after i did my last post- i went to my page and everything disappeared. now it is back. so i had to write about it. for fun...

Boring Blogger as of late

Yes- my life is boring right now. So I haven't been blogging as regularly. And I have been busy. If you only knew my schedule this week! Work and something every night. Crazy. But it is all good.

It was supposed to snow last night. And did in some areas. But not in my area. Yay! Though I was not an appreciater of the wind this morning. We have this area just where you slide your employee card to get into my work building. It looks like it would be an area that would protect you from the elements...but oh, no! My hair honestly flew straight up above my head in a big gust of wind as I ran to swipe my card. That is just not right I say! ; ) Good thing my hair is securely fastened on my head! Phew!

Anyway, I am comfy now with no hair blowing up. So I am good.

Rabbit Rabbit and a Hop

So today is the first day of the month again. "Rabbit rabbit", you chant as you arise from your comfy bed...right? I did. Woohoo! In the hopes of good luck coming my way all month of course. Though we hope that always whether we say those two words or not...

And in honor of Leap day yesterday, after the opening announcements for YW last night, I had the girls and leaders all stand up. Then I had them hop once. And then told them, "Happy Leap Day!" A lot of laughter ensued. Hehe. (Had to do something to mark the day that comes every 4 years. I couldn't help myself.)

Happy Thursday! Happy roads that weren't snow-covered...just wet. HAPPY!
